Rise of the Awakened Warriors! – Part I

Awakened Warrior“The totally awakened warrior can freely utilize all elements contained in heaven and earth. The true warrior learns how to correctly perceive the activity of the universe and how to transform martial techniques into vehicles of purity, goodness, and beauty. A warrior’s mind and body must be permeated with enlightened wisdom and deep calm.”
Morihei Ueshiba

When most people hear the term “WARRIOR” they immediately think of the very literal occupation of warriorship; in other words a soldier in the military or some type of gladiator or combat fighter comes to mind…

As it probably should! 🙂

My father was such a warrior, donning the Red Beret and serving in the United States Air Force as a member of the Combat Control Team. Hooyah!

I remember back into my childhood… it was Christmas time in 1989 and I was only 12 years old. Presents were mounting under the tree, while my brother and I were getting even more excited as it got closer and closer to Christmas day!

Dad and Mom
Mom and Dad in DC years ago

One evening (on December 19th I believe) we were alerted to the sound of my dad’s beeper going off. This was way back when your average person didn’t even have a beeper, yet alone dream of owning a cell phone.

It was something we had grown accustomed to, normally for his training drills. He checked in and informed us that he had to leave immediately. He could never tell us why, where he was going or when he would be back. Everything was classified and top secret information.

As it turned out, the very next day, the U.S. invaded Panama under code name “Operation Just Cause” to remove the de facto ruler from power.

It was the first and only Christmas that I remember my father missing.

In the end, we were just glad that he came back to us unscathed and that they captured and arrested the Panamanian Defense Force leader… Manuel Noriega, who was later indicted on eight counts of drug trafficking, racketeering and money laundering.

Here’s a picture of my dad, aboard a MC-130E Combat Talon, flying back to the US with Manuel Noriega in custody on January 3rd 1990.

Noriega in Custody
He looks pretty happy for a guy going to prison!

I’m proud of my father for his life-long dedication to his military career, the extreme and hardcore training he endured to become a warrior and part of the CCT, as well as, his many years of service to our great country.

I also honor and respect all of the warriors… past, present and future that find the courage within themselves to stand up and fight for what they believe in.

Now, I don’t necessarily condone war or the unnecessary taking of lives, yet I do believe in self-preservation, defending and protecting your loved ones, and the right to freedom. That said; violence of any kind should always remain a last resort after all other means have been fully exhausted… and even then carried out with respect, compassion and remorse.

 Transcending the Art of War

As you know, my brother and I have chosen to call this blog ‘Path of the Awakened Warriors.’ This is our ideal of a highly evolved warrior. It could be one and the same with an enlightened warrior; one whose training, battles, and life experiences has led him or her to a higher level of consciousness or awareness.

To me a warrior is not just constrained to the typical soldier who fights in battles, but can be a person who shows great courage and vigor in martial arts, athletics, business, or some other important cause or passion.

More importantly, through the disciplined mastery of his own body, mind and emotions a warrior has the potential to evolve into something more.

According to Carl Jung, an archetype is an inherited pattern of thought or symbolic image that is derived from the past collective experience of humanity and is present in the unconscious of the individual.

The warrior is just one of many common archetypes. Others are the teacher, the clown, the bully, the redeemer, the sage, the lover, the hero, the villain, the goddess, or one of many others.

“The Awakened Warrior is the blending of two archetypes: the WARRIOR and the SAGE (an enlightened person.) This self- actualized individual has the courage, determination and strength of the warrior, alongside the wisdom, detachment, and tranquility of the sage.”

As a warrior evolves and awakens to a heightened perception and understanding of himself and his ultimate reality… he transcends the state of mere warrior and becomes the warrior-sage.

He begins to see through the optical illusion of separation that divides humanity and acknowledges the literal oneness and totality of the universe.

He starts to recognize himself in the other and the other in himself… coming to the deeper realization that we all arise from the same source of consciousness. We all evolve out of the same nothingness to which we will inevitably return.

The layers of cultural conditioning and programming begin to dissolve and peel away… revealing the essence of who he truly is beyond form and time… beyond his body, mind and the limited identity or personality that he once thought of so strongly as himself.

He embarks upon a journey of growth and self-mastery… turning to the natural world for a deeper understanding of the evolutionary process and the collective principles that govern the universe.

Yet, he also balances his intuition with new insights from science, philosophy and technology.

He keeps his mind open and as clear as the blue sky, never clinging to one ideology and refuting another. He is constantly growing and evolving. He takes what is useful and valuable, adapts it to his own vision and philosophy and then discards the rest.

The Battle Within
The Battle Within

The external battle he once so vehemently fought becomes an internal one between his “ideal self” and his “shadow self”… with the ultimate goal of self-victory!

Can he master his thoughts, emotions and behaviors to unleash his ultimate potential in life OR will he be crushed by the enemy within – his fears, doubts and self-defeating mind?

Can he find true happiness through contentment and acceptance of the present moment while providing a valuable service to the world?

OR will his unending craving for more, only prolong his suffering, worry and resistance to what will become of his life?

Before, his overriding philosophy was the art of war… whereas now that he has awakened… it has become the art of peace.

His Awareness is the sword that he wields, cutting through fallacy and illusion wherever he may find it! This is the Awakened Warrior…

In Part II we will delve further into this metaphor of the Awakened Warrior and look at an example of such a warrior and how he lived his life.

Unleash the Power of Your Ultimate Potential

Ultimate Potential“Ever since I was a child I have had this instinctive urge for expansion and growth. To me, the function and duty of a quality human being is the sincere and honest development of one’s potential.”
Bruce Lee

History has a strange way of repeating itself and so I find myself in a similar situation today that I’ve faced in the past. I’ve come a long way since those early days of teenage rebelliousness and angst, but I’m still not living the life I imagined for myself.

Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m living a great life and am very grateful for the many blessings that have come my way.

  •  I’m grateful to work for a growing and generous financial planning firm.
    [weaver_html br /]
  • I’m grateful for my loving and supporting parents, friends and family.
    [weaver_html br /]
  • I’m grateful to own my own home with heat, a/c and running water.
    [weaver_html br /]
  • I’m grateful for the healthy organic food that nourishes and builds my body.
    [weaver_html br /]
  • I’m grateful for my freedom and ability to live my life as I desire.
    [weaver_html br /]
  • I’m grateful for the insights, lessons and wisdom I hope to share with you.
    [weaver_html br /]
  • I’m grateful just to be alive in this time of global awakening and transformation

I know there are millions of less fortunate people who would be happy to trade places with me in a heartbeat.

Whenever I feel like I want more money, more toys, more fun times, MORE… MORE… MORE… I often think of them and how I’m already living like a king compared to the daily reality that many must face.

This gnawing feeling in my gut is NOT so much about the ‘riches of life’ as it is about the ‘richness of life’ … of fulfilling my calling, purpose and mission.

It’s just that, deep down inside, I know there’s more for me to do, experience, and fulfill in this lifetime than the level at which I’m currently living. I have big dreams for my life, yet for some reason I’m not living up to my ultimate potential.

Can you relate?

What it really comes down to is that I’m NOT going after my goals aggressively enough. I know there are things I’m supposed to be doing (like putting my heart and soul into this website) and yet I’m not doing them with consistency and urgency!!!

Something is holding me back…
[weaver_html br /]

Down to the Cross Roads

I’m kneeling down at the cross roads again. I’m not here to make a deal with the devil, but rather to choose a path and stay on the fucking thing. To do what I came here to do!

Now, I can walk the path that so many of us follow, which I will call the Curse of the Sleepwalkers. This is an unconscious path. A path of mediocrity, of blindly following the herd, of giving in to doubt or fear, and succumbing to a life that is not the one truly desired… rather the one we often settle for.

Or I can choose another path, what I will call the conscious path or the path of the enlightened…
[weaver_html br /]

“This is the Path of the Awakened Warriors, of being your own man or woman and living consciously, of kicking fear and doubt in the face and embracing courage and confidence. This is the path of self-evolution, of following your heart, speaking your truth, and living the life you’ve imagined for yourself.”

Path of the Awakened
“Follow the Path with Heart”

Truth be told, I’ve started down the path of the awakened several times… and I’ve often fallen asleep on the quest. In doing so, I failed to fully commit to the journey.

When you lose consciousness and focus in this manner you will typically lose your way, hopefully only temporarily. At some point, you’ll suddenly be startled awake, only to realize that you have wandered off the path and are now lost in the woods.

At this point you can either give in and set up camp “mediocrity” or decide to get back on the path and keep walking until you reach the majestic summit.

Well, I can no longer meander aimlessly in the woods. I must choose a path and consciously follow it to where it leads. There’s really not much of a choice to be made for me, actually just the vow and the valor to walk down the path least followed.

I’ve already chosen the Path of the Awakened Warriors (or rather it chose me.) This is about walking it, living it… embracing it fully and following it to wherever it may lead.

As a matter of fact, since you happen to be here reading this… maybe this path has chosen you as well?!?!? Could it be an act of fate that brought you to this site (out of all of the millions of other websites on the interwebz?)

If so, I’d welcome your company on the journey! 🙂

Whatever the case may be for you, my friend, just know that this path is not the easiest path. That’s for sure! It’s fraught with difficulty, rough terrain, and obstacles the average sleepwalker is too afraid to encounter. After all, that is why it is the path least followed.

If it were easy… we would all unleash our ultimate potential!

That’s why, before we set out upon this path together, we must go through physical and mental training.

No one becomes a warrior without first going through a period of preparation to strengthen their body and toughen their mind. It would be foolish to embark upon this journey without first arming ourselves both physically and mentally.

For many, this training often becomes the path… and so this is where we MUST begin!

Body Mind Mastery and the Way of the Warrior

Bushido Kanji
Bushido: the Way of the Warrior

Our ultimate goal for this blog is to create a tribe of Awakened Warriors that are following an enlightened path to strength, vitality and personal growth.

I’m talking about taking full responsibility for every area of your life… physically, mentally, spiritually, personally, socially and financially.

At the end of the day, we want YOU to achieve your highest potential in life! We want you to enjoy the process of pushing beyond your comfort zone to become (as one of my mentors Chris McCombs would say) the “happiest, coolest, ideal version” of yourself.

Mastering your body and your mind is the first step AND THE KEY to creating the reality you wish to experience.

Seriously, think about it!
[weaver_html br /]

“There’s only two things which you have ultimate control over in this world… your mind and your body. That is to say your thoughts and your behavior. You have no direct control or influence over anything else in the universe except through your own consciousness.”

[weaver_html br /]
The more you tap into the creative power of your own consciousness, the more influence you’ll have to shape your life the way you want it.

On the other hand, if you give your power away by believing that you are subject to the whims of fate and influence of everyone else… your life will spiral out of control.

Realize that your body is nothing more than a temporary vehicle or avatar through which you may navigate the hills and valleys of the physical world in which we live. Your mind is the engine, creative fuel and raw torque that drives this vehicle forward to wherever you want to go.

The mind leads the body… without it… the body is just a lifeless pile of bones, blood and flesh.

This is why we must incorporate training which strengthens and nourishes both our bodies and our minds. We must take full possession of them and cultivate them into a vehicle that will carry our grandest dreams into being.

About a decade ago my brother, Cory, gave me a book called “The Way of Aikido” and I became highly interested in this popular Japanese martial art.

By reading the book I learned that Aikido is also known as the Art of Non-Resistance and utilizes this universal principle to turn an  attacker’s own force and momentum against him.
[weaver_html br /]

“The law of non-resistance teaches that whenever you resist some situation, you are giving more power to it. In this way you make the problem increasingly harder to solve.” – Simona Rich

[weaver_html br /]
It has been said that water is the most powerful element, because it is perfectly nonresistant. It can wear away a mountain, and sweep away all that stands before it.

In Aikido there are no attacks, only defensive techniques. So when attacked, the Aikidoka (student of Aikido) doesn’t resist it. Instead, he accepts it fully, blends with it and redirects the energy of the attack into either a projection (throw) or submission (pin.)

Morihei Ueshiba
Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido was often referred to as O’Sensei (Great Teacher)

A man named Morihei Ueshiba was the founder and creator of this unique and impressive martial art.

After mastering the classical styles of Judo, Kendo, and Jujitsu he created Aikido in correlation with his spiritual philosophy.

In Aikido, one uses throws, joint locks, and pins to subdue an attacker in a nonviolent way.

Morihei developed his “Art of Non-Resistance” as a way to cultivate peace and harmony in the world. He is now renowned as one of the greatest martial artists of all time.

In his written teachings Morihei Ueshiba states that, “The Way of a Warrior cannot be encompassed by words or in letters: Grasp the essence and move on toward realization! The purpose of training is to tighten up the slack, toughen the body, and polish the spirit.”

He then goes on to explain that, “Iron is full of impurities that weaken it; through forging, it becomes steel and is transformed into a razor-sharp sword. Human beings develop in the same fashion.”

I’ve read many books about Aikido and Morihei Ueshiba  and even trained at a Dojo for a couple years. I would love to get back into it and hope to make that a reality soon.

Even though I don’t train in Aikido specifically at the moment, the philosophy of Aikido and the principle of Non-Resistance is alive and well in me. I practice them daily and they have had a PROFOUND IMPACT on who I am as person.

So much so, that even this website has been touched and shaped by the influence of this amazing martial art. In fact, I would go so far as to say that Morhei Ueshiba is the perfect embodiment of a true Awakened Warrior.
[weaver_html br /]

The Potential of the Awakened Warriors

Now just because I’m not currently practicing in an Aikido Dojo doesn’t mean I haven’t been training my body and my mind. In fact, I’ve been doing so before I even knew what Aikido was.

Van Damme
I still have that knife from Cyborg, it is a Khukuri or “Gurkha blade”

When we were young teenagers, my brother and I both enrolled in Tae Kwon Do after becoming obsessed with Van Damme and Steven Seagal action movies! haha…

We studied TKD for five years and developed a pretty good foundation for martial arts and self-defense.

Unfortunately, we lost interest in the art after switching instructors and dojos, so we ended up quitting right before our black belt test. Doh!

Instead we picked up guitars and dreamed of starting a rock band. I guess it was time for a change! So we focused on music for many years.

In college I finally got fed up with being a skinny lil’ bastard and started lifting weights again. I made it my mission to gain some muscle and transform my body.
[weaver_html br /]

“Little did I know that I was an ectomorph and a hardgainer (which means I don’t pack on muscle easily) so my results were dismal at first.”

[weaver_html br /]

It took many years of trial and error and studying the teachings of some of the top strength coaches in the world to learn the Muscle Gaining Secrets that helped me pack on over 42 pounds of lean mass naturally.

Body Transformation
My muscle-building transformation from 130 pounds to 172 pounds didn’t happen overnight

It was during that time that I learned of Aikido, the law of Non-resistance and began practicing daily meditation. I also became highly intrigued by the Eastern philosophies of Zen Buddhism and the Tao Te Ching.

My thinking has evolved ALOT since I first began bodybuilding! No longer are my physique goals purely about the vain sake of building huge, “all show and no go” muscles.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I just want my training to serve a greater purpose than simply building an aesthetically pleasing body.

These days my training is about consistently and progressively developing the body and the mind so that I may achieve Body/Mind Mastery and Unleash the Power of My Ultimate Potential.

Although, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to look good naked too!
[weaver_html br /]

My Purpose with this Website is to Create a Hybrid Method of Training.

A training philosophy that combines the best of both Eastern and Western modalities to refine the body, mind and spirit into a unified whole. It will also utilize techniques from a variety of physical disciplines such as bodybuilding, gymnastics and martial arts.

Awakened Warrior Training is designed to build functional strength, increase athleticism and promote mental sharpness, toughness and enlightenment.
[weaver_html br /]

“Like Aikido, the essential point of training as an Awakened Warrior, is to forge and sharpen the sword that is YOU! A jaw-dropping physique is just going to be a natural and lovely side-effect of following the Awakened Warriors Training Methods!”

[weaver_html br /]
This system will integrate a variety of disciplines to achieve this purpose:

Bodyweight, Rings, Free Weights, and Martial Arts training will be used to build muscle, strength, and simultaneously transform the body into both a weapon and a work of art.

Recovery Tactics such as Self-Myofascial Release, Mobility and Stretching will help to increase recovery ability, tissue quality and joint integrity, while having the added benefit of injury prevention and pain reduction.

Cutting-Edge Nutrition and Supplement Strategies will provide the essential nutrients and building blocks through which health, vitality and overall well-being will radiate from every cell of the body.

Techniques from Aikido, Tai Chi, Yoga and other eastern wisdom traditions are incorporated to develop the inner warrior, heal the body-mind and cultivate Chi (life-energy.)

Daily Meditation, Self-Hypnosis and Visualization will be included to promote mindfulness, harness the power of the subconscious mind and eradicate any negative or limiting core beliefs that may be holding you back from your goals.

[weaver_html br /]
As I see it, this is the future of health and fitness and we will be breaking new ground by utilizing such a holistic method of training.

Of course, in order for us to bring such a training method into being we’ve got to start taking MASSIVE ACTION towards this goal. Luckily, I’ve already begun and it all starts with healing my body.

Warrior Pose
Work with your body and never against it

You see I’ve been training for over a decade and due to some carelessness on my part, as well as, pushing my body harder than I should have over the years… I am dealing with some injuries to my shoulder tendons and rotator cuff muscles. Also the adductor muscles in my left leg.

It has been a long, frustrating process for me over the past couple years. Even so, I’ve come to see these injuries as a blessing and part of the learning process.

Such adversity can teach you valuable life lessons if you look for the opportunity within them.

Because of my injuries I have learned a lot about anatomy and how the musculoskeletal system works.

I’ve had to rethink my training methods and seek out the knowledge and expertise of the best strength coaches.

I even decided to start over from ground zero in an effort to relearn the movement patterns, correct weaknesses and imbalances and give my body the extra time it needs to properly heal.

Further, I’ve learned TONS of corrective and preventative exercises that work to achieve muscular balance, restore proper functioning and help alleviate the pain and symptoms of sports related injuries.

As a result of these injuries I’ve become a lot more knowledgeable about these topics.
[weaver_html br /]

“The biggest and most important lesson I’ve learned is the necessity to work with your body instead of against it, to become more in-tune with it and listen to the subtle ways that it communicates with you.”

[weaver_html br /]
My focus for the next few months is to apply everything I know about healing the body and restoring its ability to function at a higher level so I can get back to training like an Awakened Warrior.

As I continue to heal my body, I’ll be documenting the training programs and modalities that I am using to correct my injuries, weak points and regain my athleticism.

This also gives me the opportunity to explain how one may begin training correctly from the start and avoid the MANY mistakes and pitfalls I’ve made. Hopefully, this will allow you to reach a higher level of progress and success without the set backs.

I wish you the best, thank you for reading and am looking forward to sharing this journey and the lessons I’ve learned with you!

Curse of the Sleepwalkers

Sleepwalker“Burnout is nature’s way of telling you, you’ve been going through the motions your soul has departed; you’re a zombie, a member of the walking dead, a sleepwalker.”  – Sam Keen

We’re all familiar with the sleep disorder known as sleepwalking.

Sleepwalkers rise from the stillness of slumber in a state of low consciousness.

While still asleep they may perform activities that are typically only performed while in a state of full wakeful consciousness…

Like walking around for example.

Some may eat, urinate in the closet, or even leave the house. It’s a given that this can be a dangerous situation, especially the urinating part!  😉

However, this article is not about the sleep disorder… rather I propose that a HUGE percentage of humanity is still sleeping even though they are “technically” awake!

Many of us are sleepwalking throughout our entire lives and very existence. We’re simply going through the motions in a state of “unconsciousness” that is very similar to that of a sleepwalker.

“Whatchutalkin’ bout boy?”

Let me try to explain….

Enculturation and the Subconscious Mind

When we are small children (still untainted by the world) we are fully alive, curious, playful, creative, loving, open, intuitive and mostly happy. Yet something happens to a lot of us as we grow up.

We go through a process of subconscious programming and enculturation!

Enculturation begins when we are born and is most prominent and influential through our early developmental stages. However, it is a process that continues throughout our entire lives… unless we awaken to it!

This process, in and of itself, is normal and simply how our brains evolved to operate; allowing us to learn, grow and survive in an ever-changing world and social environment.

When we are very young our minds have no filter a.k.a “bullsh!! detector” to weed out negative, limiting or false beliefs that are inflicted upon us by others.

Our subconscious minds are like a sponge… that simply soaks up whatever liquid it encounters, even if it’s toxic!

Subconscious programming
Programming the Subconscious Mind

Our minds are conditioned (brainwashed even) by our parents, teachers, religions, society and the man-made environments in which we live…for better or for worse.

Unfortunately, for many of us, it’s for worse!

We’re told what’s right and wrong, what we should believe, how we should think, speak and act, what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior and how we should ultimately live out our lives.

Often times, as kids, we’re simply set in front of the television and the media, advertisers and mega-conglomerates are left to work their million dollar magic on us…

…creating the next generation of Good Little Consumers!
[weaver_html br /]

“Over time this conditioning process becomes like a veil that has been pulled over our eyes! We no longer see reality as it truly is, but rather as we think it is through the muddied filter of our inherited belief systems and customs.”

[weaver_html br /]

This understanding then becomes our “model of the world.”

The problem arises when we get “bad information” that distorts our understanding of reality and wires our brains to make inaccurate presumptions based on these fallacies.

The other issue that arises is we have the tendency to become trapped within our minds incessant thought processes and its mental constructs. We can’t escape the random stream of mostly repetitive thoughts or turn them off!

As such, if our past conditioning causes our perception of reality to become flawed or distorted, it can be very detrimental to our well-being. After all, this subconscious belief-system is the framework from which we operate.

All of our behavior originates from within the context of our beliefs.

In time, we may fall asleep to the magnificence of the world we once knew as kids… that amazing world of infinite possibility.

A Mechanism of Unconsciousness

As a byproduct of this conditioning process, we’ve slipped into a state of lower awareness or what I like to refer to as “unconsciousness.” This is a state of being where we are no longer fully conscious of what is driving our actions and the consequences they produce.

Instead of directly experiencing the world around us through our senses we begin to “interpret” the world through the screen of our belief system and conditioned mind.

We’re no longer directly experiencing reality as it is unfolding. Rather we are judging and analyzing it primarily through mental concepts.

In many cases we’re totally oblivious to what is “actually” occurring right before our very eyes because we’re so lost within the delusion of our own reality.
[weaver_html br /]

“When this mechanism of unconsciousness turns extreme, the world becomes more abstract to us and thus even more lifeless.”

[weaver_html br /]
For example, this is the means by which we can justify killing another human being, simply by labeling and objectifying him or her as an “enemy.”

We’re no longer seeing this person as a living, sentient being with a mother, father and loved ones just like us. We no longer see this person as someone with feelings, dreams, desires and rights just like us.

Rather, they become a ‘force of opposition’ that seeks to harm us and so they must be annihilated.

In this way, we become deadened to the horrors of the world because we are no longer relating to the world. Instead we are linking our observations to mental images and labels.

This is the Curse of the Sleepwalkers!

Trapped in a Nightmare

sleepwalking girlYou can recognize the Sleepwalkers by their long, drawn and expressionless faces. Their eyes glazed over as they pass you by (barely aware of your presence.)

They now walk blindly throughout their days, carrying out the mundane tasks and duties required for their basic survival.

There’s this feeling deep inside that they’ve wandered off the path, yet this is the same road everyone else seems to be taking.

Little thought is given to the purpose and deeper meaning of their lives or where they fit in within the context of the universe as a whole. Passion and enthusiasm seem to have run dry years ago.

In many cases there is a painful aura about them. They are angered or depressed easily and subjected to emotional highs and lows. Something is missing from their lives but they’re not sure what it is or how to get it back… or if it was actually there in the first place.

And so they settle for their addictions and distractions to get them through the day.

Alcohol, drugs, television, cigarettes, web surfing, junk food, sugar, video games, sex, porn, coffee, pills or one of a dozen other mindless, unconscious habits that they use to fade reality.

Nevertheless, they still have HOPE that some day it will all work out and they will finally find peace and happiness.

Until then, they walk on through the drudgery of what has become their life. At times they may stop and ponder… “Is this all there is? There’s got to be more to life than this.”

Yet this moment of inquiry is usually short lived and they quickly fall back asleep.
[weaver_html br /]

“Day after day, year after year, their hearts grow heavy bearing this burden… and their minds race with thought after endless thought. They are lost within the nightmarish maze of their own unconsciousness.”

[weaver_html br /]

They sleepwalk on…  engrossed within the illusion of this dream-like state.

You stand before them and they look at you… without truly seeing you for who you are.

You speak to them and they hear you… without truly listening to your words.

You touch them and they respond… without truly feeling the warmth of your hand.

They eat, but they know not where their food actually comes from.

They work their job, but it brings them no joy or fulfillment.

They sleep (when they can) but it never leaves them fully rested.

They love, but it’s more of an addiction that still leaves them empty and hollow inside.

They do and do and do… but they know not the full consequences of their actions.

Eventually they die, never having fully lived. This is the unfortunate fate of the Sleepwalker!

6 Symptoms of Sleepwalkers Syndrome

nightmareSince such a large percentage of humans are, unknowingly, Sleepwalkers… it’s easy to be one yourself and simply not know it.

The main predominant symptom of being a sleepwalker is unconsciousness or lack of awareness.

It’s this lower level of conscious awareness that defines and perpetuates this affliction. However, there are a few other symptoms that are consistent among sleepwalkers.

Here are six common symptoms the Sleepwalker displays:

  1. Conformity – A sleepwalker is naturally a follower and blindly goes along with the herd… even if that herd is being led to the slaughter! They usually adopt behaviors, lifestyles, belief-systems, or dogma without questioning or logical validation.  They don’t want to have to think things out on their own and would rather just conform to what the majority thinks is right and acceptable.
    [weaver_html br /]
  2. Discontent – A sleepwalker is typically unhappy and is dissatisfied with life. Whether they dislike their unfulfilling job, find their personal relationships empty and superficial, or are just displeased with the general circumstances of their daily existence; you will find that discontentment is a common theme that permeates their thoughts and attitude.
    [weaver_html br /]
  3. Blame – A sleepwalker habitually transfers the burden of responsibility to some external source. If things aren’t going their way they are quick to blame and pass the liability onto their parents, their genetics, their bad luck, the government, the economy, or anything that releases them from being accountable for their actions and the results they’re experiencing in life.
    [weaver_html br /]
  4. Apathy – A sleepwalker generally gives off an impression of indifference about them. They tend to show a lack of concern with regards to important matters in their life like social, financial, and personal obligations.  They seem uninterested in learning new ideas or concepts and tend to be stuck in a rut. Overall they are apathetic to anything that may take them out of their comfort zone.
    [weaver_html br /]
  5. Lethargy – A sleepwalker often times lacks energy and may regularly complain of being tired. They tend to have a lazy side and repeatedly procrastinate on their everyday jobs, household tasks and life responsibilities. Sleepwalkers seem to really enjoy television and spend hours each day glued to the tube in a trance-like state which only perpetuates this weariness. This downward spiral of lethargy keeps them trapped in their current predicament because they fail to take action on the very tasks that will lead to their freedom.
    [weaver_html br /]
  6. Despair – A sleepwalker unfortunately spends a great deal of time depressed and disheartened. They feel hopelessness towards changing the conditions of their life and this makes them even more miserable. Although they may have dreams and desires for their life, fear, self-doubt and uncertainty prevent them from following through on their aspirations. The curse of their unconsciousness is a huge weight on their heart, which remains broken and strained by the heaviness of despair.

Take an honest look at your life to assess whether you are showing any signs of these symptoms. It may be difficult to admit that you, yourself are a sleepwalker.

Just as an alcoholic will become angry at the notion that he or she may have a drinking problem, sleepwalkers will also show emotional upset at the very suggestion…
[weaver_html br /]

“No one wants to own up to the Truth that they have been living their life blindly… yet it’s through the very act of facing reality that we take the first steps towards awakening.”
[weaver_html br /]

Insights of a Former Sleepwalker

In conclusion, I think it may be helpful to divulge the fact that I was a former sleepwalker and admittedly even still find myself dozing off from time to time.
